Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2020 is sadly cancelled.
The organising committee for Shrewsbury Steam Rally has now had chance to review all the currently available information from the Government and held a somewhat unusual Committee meeting via conference call.
During the meeting, the committee unanimously decided that the 2020 Shrewsbury Steam Rally will now very sadly need to be cancelled. We feel this decision was held off for as long as sensibly possible. However, the conclusion of the meeting was that this is now the responsible course to take to ensure everybody’s health and wellbeing, as well as allowing good time to do everything necessary in this unfortunate situation.
We would just like to take this opportunity to thank all our service providers, exhibitors and volunteers for their understanding and co-operation during this uncertain period. We really look forward to working with you all again in the run-up to Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2021.
Moving forward, our focus will obviously now turn towards our 2021 Rally, which will also be the 60th year of our society, and we therefore intend to celebrate our Diamond Anniversary with a spectacular event. We look forward to you all being able to join us again next year on the usual August Bank Holiday weekend – Sunday & Monday 29th & 30th August 2021.
In the meantime, we sincerely wish you all the very best of health, and please do stay safe.
The County of Salop Steam Engine Society
The annual Shrewsbury Steam Rally is one of Shropshire’s biggest events of the year, with something for all the family. A fantastic two-day event held over the August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, within the picturesque venue of Onslow Park, just outside of Shrewsbury.
Each year the Rally attracts thousands of people to marvel at the many vintage and steam-powered vehicles of all shapes and sizes, either in action in the Main Arena or on static display for closer inspection.
If you’ve never experienced the sight, sound and smell of steam engines in action, then this is the place to be.
Over 1,000 exhibits
- Steam-powered engines, lorries and cars of all shapes and sizes
- Historic military vehicles
- Vintage/classic cars and commercial vehicles
- Classic motorbikes and bicycles
- Vintage tractors
- Vintage fairground and organs
- Prams and pushchairs
The Main Arena
The Main Arena is the centrepiece of the event, with the Grand Parade of Steam Engines, set to nostalgic music and poetry – a memorable highlight for many people. There are also parades of all kinds of other vehicles, from historic lorries, classic cars and motorcycles, to heavy horses, prams and bicycles.
Our working field brings the past back to life with demonstrations showing the history of farming and rural skills through the last century, with teams of shire horses ploughing part of the site, as well as steam-powered cultivating.
Crafts & Hobbies Marquee
With the ever-expanding Crafts & Hobbies Marquee and over six acres of Trade Stands, there’s plenty to browse in that never-ending search for a bargain.
There’s plenty of food and drink at stalls around the Rally site, as well as a licensed bar. Everywhere you look there’s vintage machinery in pristine condition, as well as an Olde Time Fairground and organs.
